About Me

My photo
Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom
I have been crafting since May 2008, when in desperation to find an unusual birthday card for my Mum, I gave up looking in the shops and decided to have a go at making my own. I soon realised that crafting is addictive and I haven't brought a card since. In 2011 I completed my certificate in papercrafting as a result of the work I did as part of the course I started entering challenges on line and in magazines. I applied for design teams and also started making samples for Ooh La La Creations for their shows on Create and Craft. I have now completed my Diploma in professional crafting and most recently been runner up in the Papercrafter of the Year 2013 a competition run by Papercraft essentials magazine, I don't have a particular style I like to use elements from lots of styles and techniques, although I do love all things vintage. In 2014 I started to move more towards scrapbooking to take care of the huge family archive of photographs that were stored in my attic. I have continued cardmaking and Scrapbooking through 2015 and 2016 but have also become interested in off the page projects. I hope to be able focus on these in the future.

Seeing Red at Ooh La La Creations

Hello it's time for a new challenge over at Ooh La La Creations this week. Once again thank you for all the gorgeous entries in the vintage/nostalgia challenge always a popular challenge and I love this style so it was great fun looking at the cards and commenting. Well done to the winners who can be found on the Ooh La La Creations Challenge Blog.

The theme for the challenge this time was chosen by Wendy and is seeing red- use red in the design.
There was no doubt in my mind which CD I would be using for this challenge as I love Poppies and they fitted the brief perfectly so here is my creation.

I used the Shoes in Bloom CD which is available from the Ooh La La Creations shop. I wanted the poppies on a plain white background but the decoupage sheet has them on a green background, not to be deterred I used My Craft Studio to crop the image of the poppies from the bottom of the bookmark and resized it and printed it onto decoupage paper three times. I used a plain oval die and having fussy cut the bud at the top of the image left this outside the die whilst cutting the oval. I then selected the bits I wanted to add dimension to from the other images and cut them out, and shaped them using a ball tool and an embossing mat.

The white wood grain paper and the black spotty paper are from the new Faithful Friends CD and I added some strips of red polka dot Washi tape and black and white and red and white gingham ribbon. I made the poppy in the bottom right hand corner using flowers cut from plain copier paper using the tattered flowers die from Tim Holtz and colouring two medium flowers with alcohol markers in bright red and a small flower coloured in black, I then added a small punched flower in red and finished with a tiny stamen coloured black. I also added the punched butterfly some gems at the top and three polka dot buttons from the range at Ooh La La Creations.

The spotty theme continued inside the card and I made a pocket from the white wood grain paper to hold the book mark. I decorated this with more washi tape, butterflies and a doily with the image from the top corner of the book mark in the centre.

I added a panel of the white wood grain paper to the right hand panel and wrapped this with more of the gingham ribbon before adding the word friend in letters die cut from red card and some gems. I then matted a piece of white card onto black then red card trimming to leave narrow borders and fixed this in the centre of the right hand panel for a message.

I am entering this card into the following challenges

  6. I love this Ali. I too love poppies and have some growing wild in a field outside my garden. It always gives me a lift when they begin to appear. Think I know then that Winter has finally gone.
