P is for Post Box

Over at http://craftyhazelnutschristmaschallenge.blogspot.co.uk/ the theme for this weeks Christmas card is P is for penguins or anything else beginning with P. So far I have done penguins, polar bears, puddings, poinsettias and now it is the turn of the humble post box

Again the card is part of my charity recycling project and have been made from pre loved Christmas cards donated by work colleagues with the addition of some freebie backing papers and bits from my scrap box..

This image and sentiment were actually one card but I split it and then trimmed both parts and matted them onto silver mirror card. I used the red mirror card backing to highlight the red of the post box and wrapped it with a strip of lovely paper from my scrap box. It feels more like fabric and has lovely waves of silver and opaque white running through it. I added a square of red and white polka dot paper behind the sentiment and mounted the sentiment at an angle finishing with a sequin snowflake and clear gem.

Once again I will enter this card into the folllowing challenges

P is for Poinsettia

Over at http://craftyhazelnutschristmaschallenge.blogspot.co.uk/ the theme for this weeks Christmas card is P is for penguins or anything else beginning with P. This time I have focused on one of my favourite plants of the festive season, a native of Mexico I love the wonderful Scarlet colour of these plants.

Again the card is part of my charity recycling project and have been made from pre loved Christmas cards donated by work colleagues with the addition of some freebie backing papers.

I fussy cut the two Poinsettias from the front of a card which left the lovely sentiment because that was irregularly shaped I matted it onto a scrap of mat gold card. The backing is from the rear of another card which I trimmed to fit a 5x7 card blank and added a green doily the sentiment was placed in the top right hand corner and the Poinsettias positioned to hide the irregular edge. I finished with the flourishes cut from the back of another card and the bow salvaged from the front of a card. The finishing touches were bright red gems added into the centre of the 'flowers'

P is for Pudding

Over at http://craftyhazelnutschristmaschallenge.blogspot.co.uk/ the theme for this weeks Christmas card is P is for penguins or anything else beginning with P. So for these two cards I focused on one of my favourite parts of Christmas dinner the pudding.

Again the cards are part of my charity recycling project and have been made from pre loved Christmas cards donated by work colleagues with the addition of some freebie backing papers.

For the first card I just cut the image of the pudding from the card front and added stickles on the 'brandy sauce' and the darker areas of the pudding.

For the second I coated the brandy sauce with pearlised paint and added red gems to the holly. This one fits the letter P on a couple of counts as I figure that P is also for paws and the teddy has paws.

P is for Polar bears

Over at http://craftyhazelnutschristmaschallenge.blogspot.co.uk/ the theme for this weeks Christmas card is P is for penguins or anything else beginning with P. So for these two cards I went to the opposite pole from penguins literally and came up with Polar Bears.

Again the cards are part of my charity recycling project and have been made from pre loved Christmas cards donated by work colleagues with the addition of some freebie backing papers.

Here is the first

I used a starry background paper on this one to match the sentiment of wishing upon a star and trimmed the backing paper with silver peel offs.

The second one I just mounted the image and sentiment onto scraps of silver mirror card from my scrap box to make them stand out against the background.

My knight in shining armour

Well it's that time of year when I become a bit secretive in with my crafting . I have to keep the project I am working on secret from Hubby who is normally welcome in my craft room but for the past couple of days has been barred from entering. Only because I have been working on a Valentines day card for him, here is what I have come up with and it is safe to share it here he has no idea how to find my blog.

All the images are from the Debbi Moore 'Days of Knights' CD and I went with the rich burgundy red and the white Knight for this design. The card is a stepper car but the back flab which stabilises the card when it is open has been folded over as a 'cover' and tied with ribbon  I mounted the story book page image on the cover to tell the story. mounting this on plain black card.

 I also decorated the back of the card with the coat of arms paper which was also mounted on black card.

Once the ribbon is undone the front cover flips over to reveal the stepper featuring the Knight ready to do battle with the fearsome dragon on the front step and his lady waiting by the castle window on the back step.

I couldn't use traditional decoupage other wise the card wouldn't lie flat when closed so I added dimension by just decoupaging the knights shield and the lady's sleeves and the shields mounted either side of the  window on the castle back drop.

On the inside of the cover I used one of the white design papers from the CD and added a self penned verse on a one of the card inners which I cut to size and stuck to one side adding a gold panel bearing two hearts cut from burgundy card using a Cheery Lynne Celtic hearts die. 

All that remains is for the card to be signed before I present it to him on Valentine's day.

Love Story OLL Dt Inspiration

Hello everyone - well it's that time of year and love is in the air. I have to say we had some gorgeous entries into our last challenge and you can see the winners on the Ooh La La creations Challenge blog . Whilst you are there check out the DT inspiration for the latest Challenge of Love Story there are some real wow factor cards on show.

Here's my offering .....any Create and Craft viewers may think this looks familiar - that's because it was one of the samples I designed for the launch show of the Ooh La La Creations 'Yesterday's Memories' CD which aired on 27th January. The image and papers in the design are all from the CD and if you want to get a copy for yourself you can order it from Ooh La La Creations. 

I started by printing 2 copies of the image from the wedding vinatge set folder and die cut a heart of just the couple's faces from one image I then used sticky pads to stick this over their faces in the other image to give a little depth. The wedding Day greeting paper is also from the same folder and this was matted onto gold card and trimmed to leave a narrow border. I also trimmed a small piece just to show the words 'Wedding Day' and matted it onto gold card to make the sentiment at the top right which I glued across a die cut heart I used the Celtic Heart design from Cherry Lynn..

The with love sentiment was from the tags and sentiments folder and was again mounted on gold card and trimmed to leave a very fine border. The gold heart die cut was one of those happy accidents that all crafters experience from time to time. The gold card was actually a little too thick for the Cheery Lynne die and all the really intricate bits didn't cut properly so rather than spoil the die cut by forcing the intricate bits out I left them in place to give an embossed look and leave a solid heart with just the edge cut out.

The wedding rings were cut using a Marianne die. Because of the vintage look of the image I used Kraft as a base and I covered this with a paper that I found in the bonus paper folder, which again was mounted on gold card and trimmed to leave a narrow border. The ribbon was recycled - it was wrapped around the lovely hand made Christmas cake that a friend of my dad's makes for the family every year. I washed the bits of icing off and dried it out and it works perfectly with the colour scheme. I raided the button box to find the painted wooden button. I finished off by adding a few golden coloured gems from my stash. Whilst this is a wedding card it could easily be adapted for an anniversary  by changing the colours of the ribbons, gems and die cuts. and by replacing the greeting paper with a different patterned paper.

Inside the card I used backing papers from the wedding folder on the CD and edged them with gold peel offs. The die cuts are made with a Marianne die, and another of my happy accidents with Cheery Lynne die was used on the inside of the card. You can see the inner pages in close up below

P is for Penguin

This week at http://craftyhazelnutschristmaschallenge.blogspot.co.uk/ the theme is Penguins or anything else beginning with P.

So I sat down and made a list and am currently searching through the bag of recycled cards to find images to fit the theme.

Hers is the first one I made.

The image is the front of an A6 size card but I matted it onto silver card and a pretty paper that was the insert from inside another card and then put it onto a 5x7 card, the snowflake embellishment was snipped from yet another card and added using a dab of gel glue to add dimension. I trimmed the edge of the backing paper with silver peel offs to finish.

It is quite surprising how many subjects beginning with P can be found on Christmas cards - and several of them will be making an appearance on here over the next week.
